Railway Labor Act
One of the main federal laws that gives our union the structure to operate is the Railway Labor Act. Some quick bullet points to keep in mind when you are reading these agreements are:
- All of our Agreements stay in place until another one takes it's place. ( Both parties agree to changes, or it goes to arbitration)
- When the Carrier interprets the agreement one way and we interpret it another way. We are allowed to GRIEVE
- Minor Grivences - We can't strike. We must file claims (grieve) to resolve the grievence.
- Major Grivences - We can strike once we go through the process.
SMART-TD National Agreements
Our National Agreements are negotiated by our International Division (SMART-Transportation Division) and the National Carriers' Conference Committee (NCCC). You can check out SMART-TD’s website or the NCCC’s website to see who was involved in the last national agreement we have.
